HG08 Warriors leader faces a familiar feeling in Game 7 against the Rockets

10:38pm, 10 May 2025【Basketball】

Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and the Warriors struggled in their last two games against the Rockets.

Things have changed dramatically since they were reversed last time in the series. Stephen Curry had two children at the time, but now he has four. Draymond Green was shaved clean at the time, and now his beard is mottled and gray.

The two Golden State Warriors legendary superstars, as the last symbol of the former champion dynasty, show obvious signs of maturity and aging. Speaking of aging, how much will they age if they lose in the game again?

In 2016, the Cavaliers shocked the Warriors and basketball. Under the leadership of LeBron James, the Cavaliers made a strong comeback to win the championship for Cleveland with the outstanding performance of Kyrie Irving. The energetic Rockets could win the first-round playoff series on Sunday at the expense of two proud but currently vulnerable Warriors main players.

This time, like last time, Curry, 37, and Green, 35, play a crucial role in the reversal. In the first six games, they did not reach their best, and the series ended up being tied at 3, and they all took their own responsibilities.

They may be able to complete some redemption in Game 7 to avoid repeating the same mistakes. This is because, even though they are already the last nine games of their career, they are known for showing their strength at critical moments.

Draymond: "Game 7 is Game 7. As long as you have the chance, it is fun. It's exciting."

Curry: "If you don't show the right mentality, you will face a long summer vacation."

The NBA Finals against the Cavaliers were very historical, exciting, and attracted a lot of audiences. It has become the turning point and explosion point of this generation of basketball. The Warriors tried to put a perfect end to the season: They set a record of 73 wins and narrowly beat their opponents with a total score of 48 points in the first two games of the Finals. The Cavaliers are trying to accomplish this feat for Cleveland, who has never won the NBA championship.

And when Draymond was a little excited and slammed into the sensitive parts of LeBron's body, the series and script reversed in Game 4.

He received a technical foul, which means that as a player with too many technical fouls in the playoffs, he will face a one-game suspension. Draymond hit Steven Adams in the groin – coincidentally, Adams is now playing for the Rockets – before he dropped Michael Beasley to the ground. The Warriors led 3-1 but lost that game and the next game, while Draymond watched the game on TV in the luxury box at the Auckland Stadium (A's home court). One of the most forgotten performances in history is Draymond's performance in Game 7 after the suspension. Considering the situation at the time, this game was the most impressive of his career: 32 points, 15 rebounds, 9 assists, and several muscle displays. However, all this was covered by LeBron's chase block and Carey's winning jump shot.

As for Curry, he started out in good shape in that round of the series. But then the condition went downhill, just like this round of the series against the Rockets.

in the fourth game against the Cavaliers, he scored 38 points to help the Warriors gain a lead. In that series, he only scored another 30 points. Not only did his efficiency gradually decline, his weak performance in the seventh game also attracted criticism because he had been performing very well before.

In that game, Stephen made 6 goals (19 shots). He made 6 mistakes. He made a goal in the fourth quarter. He didn't get a single point in the last six minutes. When Carey scored the winning goal, he was slow to find a chance. It was a shameful experience for a player who won an MVP for two consecutive years.

"I didn't contribute enough to the team's winnings," he said at the time. "This will bother me for a while."

So how did Curry and Draymond perform in this series with the Rockets? There are ups and downs.

Draymond won the last seconds of the fourth game. The Rockets sent inside players and Draymond accepted the defensive challenge. Sengon failed to hit the shot and Draymond roared.

However, in the next two games, Sengong made 14 of 29 shots, averaging 18 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists per game. In hindsight, his confidence and soul were not taken away that night.

Worse, Draymond's old friend Adams came on the bench and performed well.

Meanwhile, Draymond has made as many turnovers in the past two games as rebounds and shots (6 each). Even if the Rockets give him enough space, he will still miss the shot.

Fred VanVleet scored 29 points and the Houston Rockets defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 to drag the game into Game 7.

Curry performed brilliantly in the first and third games, but the rest were mediocre. In the last two losses, his thumb was in unbearable pain, his shooting percentage was less than 40%. He missed the opportunity to eliminate the Rockets every time, and he performed in a mess in the fourth quarter on Friday.

Also: He is not as good as Fred VanVleet. The Rockets defender beat Curry to win the championship while playing for the Raptors in 2019, and he made 18 of 27 three-pointers in the last three games, showing a stronger sense of urgency, mainly because he has no choice.

So this is where Stephen and Draymond are now, either making up for the regrets of history or repeating the same mistakes. At least for Curry, the last time he experienced Game 7 was wonderful – scoring 50 points against the Kings, a game that was once again legendary for him.

The pair has at least Jimmy Butler, who usually plays out best in the playoffs and has proven himself an ideal teammate since the mid-season trade came here.

"We will win together and lose together," Butler said. "I know we will win together on Sunday."

However, it's all thanks to Draymond Green and Stephen Curry. This is another 3-1 lead, and now it has become a 3-game, with no room for any mistakes. If they lose again, history may not be tolerant of them.

Curry said: "I know that despite our poor performance in the last two games, we are still full of energy, which makes us excited."

Life? That's right. But how long can it last? Everything was settled on Sunday, either face it with a smile… or go home.
