BBC: Crystal Palace meets Wolves sports director Hobbes, he looks at Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

August 19 BBC reported that Crystal Palace held talks with former Wolves athletic director Matt Hobbs on the vacant position.

Crystal Palace has been looking for a new sports director after Doug Friedman left earlier this year. Hobbs watched the team's Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish and became a strong contender for the position, according to BBC Sports.

BBC Sports first disclosed Crystal Palace's interest in Hobbes on July 30. Friedman left Crystal Palace at the end of last season to take on a multi-project role at the Saudi Arabian club. Previously, there were some questions about whether Crystal Palace would directly replace Friedman, as recruitment consultant Ian Moody and assistant sports director Ben Stevens have taken on a wider role since the Scots left.

However, Hobbs is expected to return to football after leaving Molyneux this summer to take on a new role at Selhurst Park Stadium.
