Previously, the Los Angeles Lakers officially announced the roster of players participating in the next NBA summer league, including Sir 'Jabari Rice, a backcourt player who played for the South Bay Lakers, a subordinate team of the Lakers in the NBA Development League last season.

Rice was born in December 1998 and is 26 years old, 193cm tall and weighs 82kg. He is the undraft in the 2023 NBA Draft. The backcourt player from the University of Texas received a two-way contract from the San Antonio Spurs after the draft, but he did not play once in the NBA and was cut by the Spurs in December 2023. Rice has played in the NBA Development League for the past two seasons. He first stayed for one season with the Spurs' subordinate team Austin Spurs. Before the NBA Development League game last season, Miami Heat's subordinate team Sioux Fox Trendli obtained his NBA Development League ownership through a trade. However, in November last year, Sioux Fox Power cut Rice again due to poor performance. In December last year, the Nanwan Lakers, who were in urgent need of personnel, claimed Rice from the player pool, and he has been playing for the Nanwan Lakers until the end of the season.

Since joining the South Bay Lakers, Rice has played 40 games in the NBA Development League regular season, averaging 21.6 minutes per game, averaging 13.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.1 blocks, and 2.1 turnovers and 1.5 fouls. He has shot 50.8% from the field, 41.5% from three-point shooting percentage and 78.3% from free throws. Rice's performance in the South Bay Lakers is actually quite good. Although he is a bench player, he has very good scoring ability, his offensive efficiency is very outstanding, his three-point shooting percentage is also quite reliable, and he also has certain passing ability and organizational ability. He is also an indispensable key figure on the team's bench. Of course, Rice's performance on the defensive end is indeed average, and it is difficult for him to undertake more defensive tasks.

I believe that Rice is also very kind to the Lakers. If the Nanwan Lakers had not signed him, he would not have had a stunning performance in the second half of last season. He might even find it difficult for him to gain a foothold in the NBA Development League. In this case, representing the Lakers in the summer league is also an ideal choice. If Rice can show enough competitiveness in the summer league, he may have a chance to get a training camp contract with Exhibit 10 and participate in the Lakers' training camp and preseason games, and he will also have the chance to strike into a two-way contract. Even if he can't get a contract from the Lakers, he can continue to play for the South Bay Lakers next season.
