The Rockets still have a need for point guards! Uduka is not at ease with Shepard? The 4th point guard may join

It seems that there are already many players in the position of the Rockets point guard. In addition to the main point guard Van Vritte next season, Uduka and Stone managers have said that next season, the 21-year-old young defender Shepard will serve as the Rockets' second point guard, which means that he will become Van Vritte's first substitute next season. If Van Vreet plays about 35 minutes per game, the remaining 10 minutes will be allocated to Shepard.

After all, Shepard was the No. 3 pick last season. He has good personal strength, talent, and his basketball IQ is widely favored. Shepard is very modest. This summer he personally said that he was not only training to shoot, but also strengthening his defense, and has been improving his strength and confrontational ability. So in the summer league, we have seen a stronger and better defense Shepherd. But this is not enough. Shepard needs to show his abilities again in the regular season next season, especially his organizational ability and three-point shooting, otherwise the Rockets will abandon him.

Next season, veteran Aaron Holiday will serve as the third point guard. The Rockets will renew his contract with him this summer to find a backup for No. 1 position. But obviously, Amen Thompson can also serve as point guard in addition to the Rockets' three point guards, but Uduka has now transformed him into a power forward, and he may also serve as a shooting guard next season, because after Jaylen Green was traded, Amen Thompson is the most suitable starter in the shooting guard position. But is Uduka really very relieved about Shepard? Obviously the answer is no, because there is a sign that the Rockets still have a need to sign a new point guard.

37-year-old veteran Beverly played in the overseas league last season and is now a free agent and has been training with the Rockets in recent weeks. Beverly personally showed up on a show, saying that the Rockets almost signed him, but their salary space was not enough, so he gave up. If the Rockets sign Beverly, he will be the Rockets' fourth point guard. The real reason why the Rockets collect so many point guards is nothing more than being worried about Shepard.

Because Shepard is relatively thin, although he has been practicing his strength this summer, it is still a question whether he can perform as expected in the regular season and playoffs next season. Once Shepard can't count on him, the Rockets can't let Van Vreet and Aaron Holiday support the No. 1 position. If Beverly can join at this time, or if other new defenders can join, then there will be more cards available in Uduka's hands.

So, although Beverly did not join the Rockets, the Rockets' management and coaching staff still want to upgrade to No. 1 position. Therefore, the fourth point guard may join the Rockets. Of course, the Rockets may also have to see how the current No. 1 combination is effective in the preseason. If it doesn't work, the Rockets may clear up their salary space and then sign a fourth point guard with a basic salary.
