The King considers signing Westbrook! The urgent need for point guard becomes the main reason
3:15pm, 29 June 2025【Basketball】
On June 27, the NBA entered the offseason. According to famous reporter Sam Amick and others, the Kings are interested in signing Westbrook. The Kings are eager to have a point guard, and Westbrook earlier rejected the player option this summer and is currently a free agent.
Sam Amick pointed out that free agents Tyame Jones and Westbrook are options that the Kings are considering. The free agent market will officially open at 6 pm ET on June 30. However, besides the vacancy of point guards, league sources said the Kings are open to the multiple possibilities of the team’s roster. The Kings had considered Ju Holiday, but were ultimately worried about his age (35 years old) and contract (including player options for the 2027-2028 season, totaling $104.4 million). Holiday was sent to the Trail Blazers by the Celtics in a deal earlier this week. Trae Young was also an option for the Kings, but eventually gave up because of his playing style (offensive priority) and contract (he is eligible for renewal this summer but is expected to earn $45.9 million next season, and there is also a player option worth $8.9 million in 2026-2027).
In the 2024-25 season, Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds in the regular season, playing 75 games, including 36 starts. In the playoffs, Westbrook played 14 games, averaging 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. The Nuggets were eliminated 4-3 by the champion Thunder in the semi-finals.
After the end of last season, Westbrook rejected the player option to become a free agent. He has played for the Thunder, Rockets, Wizards, Lakers, Clippers, and Nuggets in his career. Will the Kings become his next stop? Let's wait and see!
