Durant almost returns to the Warriors, Warriors Green reveals Durant s deal is "nearly over"

The Warriors almost got Suns star Kevin Durant before the trade deadline, and then they got Jimmy Butler.

This season, the Golden State Warriors have had a huge success before the trade deadline, getting Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat, partnering with Stephen Curry. The two cooperated tacitly to help the Warriors enter the second round of the playoffs, but Curry's hamstring injury brought their dream of winning to an abrupt end.

Although it is of great significance to get Butler's deal, the Golden State Warriors want to create a bigger sensation before replacing the dissatisfied Miami star. The Warriors had hoped to reach an agreement with Kevin Durant, who won the NBA championship with the team in 2017 and 2018.

Durant eventually chose to stay in Phoenix for the rest of the season and is likely to be traded in the offseason. However, according to Sports Illustrated’s Ben Stinar, Draymond Green and his teammates believe the deal is very close to completion.

"I saw Joe [Lakob]; Joe was excited; he was my man," Green said through Stinale. "Joe said, 'Draymond, I think we'll get Kevin Durant; right near the finish line; right in front of us.' We're going to get Kevin Durant back... We've talked about it, and he said do you think it works? I said, it works... He ran back to me in two minutes. Draymond, Draymond, I shouldn't say anything. Don't tell anyone anything.

Klay Thompson is no longer in the roster, but the core roster of Curry, Green and Durant is still a very good team before the playoffs Strong lineup. Curry's injury will put any version of the Warriors in a strait, but putting him and Durant back together scares any opponent.

Getting Durant may be a little higher than getting Butler, but losing players like Jonathan Cumingga or Moses Moody is definitely worth it considering Durant can improve his wing's scoring ability. Now, the Warriors may not have enough assets to bring Durant to the Bay Area this offseason, as the Suns will inevitably trade him out.
