Brooklyn Nets used all five of their first-round draft players at the 2025 NBA Draft

6:35am, 29 June 2025【Basketball】

Today the Brooklyn Nets used all five of their first-round draft players in the 2025 NBA Draft, becoming the first team in league history to pick five players in the first round.

Perhaps more surprising than the Nets retaining all draft picks, four of the five players selected are guards, including three point guards. Is Cai Chongxin a personal guard? The Brooklyn entered the draft with the No. 8, 19, 22, 26 and 27 draft picks, sparking speculation that the team would trade at least a few people to adjust the roster or integrate them for a larger draft pick. Instead, General Manager Sean Max has used all of this to cement what has been widely believed to be the fact that Brooklyn will be in development in the 2025-26 season, and even if the Eastern Conference seems to be very open, many of the top clubs — the Milwaukee Bucks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers — are dealing with key injuries.

Max picked Egor Deming from the start of the night, a 6-foot-9-inch power forward and dazzling passer start!

and another point guard was selected, 6-foot-5 organizer Nolan Traore from France. Both were selected earlier than expected, as ESPN's final mock draft is expected to be 13th and 22nd place respectively. If Yang Hansen was not intercepted by the Trail Blazers, the Nets would probably choose him at the 18th pick!

North Carolina winger Drake Powell became the Nets' third choice before Brooklyn picks Israeli point guard Ben Salav and Michigan big man Danny Wolf.

"I'm excited about our combination tonight," Max said of using all five draft picks. "We have some players who play the ball right, pass the ball right, and have some skills that have not been developed yet." The Nets also have the 36th pick in the second round draft that restarted Friday. The historic draft began a summer with coach Jody Fernandez and the team will have to address some roster issues, including the future of forward Cameron Johnson and restricted free agent Cam Thomas.

But one thing seems clear: With D'Angelo Russell playing in free court and since Kyrie Irving was traded to Dallas in 2023, the team has revolving doors on point guards, these rookie drafts will have a chance to play as the Nets look to the future.
