According to Forbes sports reporter Evan Sidery, the Los Angeles Lakers hope to strengthen the team's inside strength this summer. They are looking for an inside player with excellent athleticism and good at hitting the basket. Sidery said that the Lakers completed a deal with the Charlotte Hornets before the trading deadline, but it ended up failing. Sidery also said there are two names worthy of special attention this summer, namely Nicolas Claxton of the Brooklyn Nets and Daniel Gafford of the Dallas Mavericks. Currently, the Nets are open to the deal about Clarkston, and they will consider other teams' offers for him. Gafford hopes to reach a salary increase contract with his Mavericks.

In the NBA regular season this season, Clarkston made a total of 70 appearances in 82 games, averaging 26.9 minutes per game, averaging 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.4 blocks, and 162 turnovers and 2.1 fouls, shooting percentage of 56.3%, three-point shooting percentage of 23.8%, and free throw shooting percentage of 51.5%.

In the NBA regular season this season, Gafford played 57 games in 82 games, averaging 21.5 minutes per game, averaging 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.4 steals and 1.8 blocks, and 1.2 turnovers and 2.7 fouls, with a shooting percentage of 70.2% and a free throw percentage of 68.9%. In the first round playoff game where the Mavericks beat the Sacramento Kings, Gafford made 3 of 4 shots and 3 of 4 free throws in 20 minutes and 30 seconds of playing time, scoring 9 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks, and 1 turnover and 2 fouls, with a plus-negative value of +11. In the second round of the playoffs, the Mavericks lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, Gafford made 2 of 2 shots and 1 of 1 free throws in 18 minutes and 17 seconds of playing time, scored 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block, and 1 turnover, with a high positive and negative value of +6 in the team.

Clarkston and Gafford are both inside players who meet the Lakers' employment standards. They all have good finishing skills, can create threats in the opponent's inside, and do a good job in eating cakes. On the other hand, they are all players with excellent athleticism, and they also have the ability to support the team in defending the basket. Considering that their teams may consider giving up, and they have such a high tactical matching with the Lakers, I don’t know that the Lakers will consider trying to get these two players through trades next.
