Smith couldn't suppress her excitement for the victory and expressed her love to the hosts and guests of the First Take program while celebrating this impressive victory for the Knicks.
"I love everyone! I love Molly. I love Brian Windhorst. I love Jay Williams. I love all my producers. I love ESPN. I love Los Angeles. I love everyone. Why? Because the New York Knicks are in their hands, this kind of thing becomes their home court," Smith said. "Did you see the big man Brunson? Did you see him? I know you see it because the whole world has witnessed the most critical player in the NBA finishing the deal in Motor City."
Brunson made 15 of 33 shots in the game, scoring 40 points, and sent 7 assists and 4 rebounds. With 4.1 seconds left in the game, he hit a winning three-pointer to help the Knicks stay ahead, while the Pistons made a fatal mistake before time ran out.
Knicks will face champion Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Hall of Fame center and TNT commentator Shaquille O'Neal interprets the Knicks' secret to winning the championship for us. O'Neal warned Brunson and his teammates.
"Jellen has to play great, Anunobi has to play great, and the Celtics have to dominate," O'Neal added. "The game can't go ups and downs. He has to play 25/26 so they have a chance to win. You can't just want to win one game. You have to really fight and say, yes, we can really beat the Celtics." Jaylen Brunson lamented his outstanding performance at the critical moment after the Knicks won
ESPN's Stephen A Smith celebrated the victory, while Knicks All-Star Jaylen Brunson also thanked his teammates for laying the foundation for his winning three-pointer. After the game, Brunson attributed all the credit to them.
"I rely on my teammates' trust and calmness in me," Brunson said. "I wouldn't have been where I am today without this teammate. He performed so well tonight. Obviously, everyone will comment on the last shot. But throughout the game, we kept calm, and he performed very well. So, I have to attribute a lot of credit to my teammates. Without them, it wouldn't have happened." Reporter: "Will you feel your heartbeat when the pressure comes? ... What will you do to stay calm?"
Jaylen Brunson: "I will stay calm. I rely on the trust and calm that my teammates have given me." 🗣️
Brunson and the Knicks will face the Celtics on Monday for their first game.
