The CEO is determined! Premier League official: There is no overseas league plan, please do it for La Liga Serie A!

Premier League CEO Richard Masters said there are no plans to schedule top league matches abroad and insisted that "this is not in our discussion."

Masters' remarks come after news that the Spanish and Italian Football Federation is currently negotiating plans to host league matches in Australia and the United States this season.

If the two governing bodies approve, a La Liga match between Barcelona and Villarreal could be seen in Miami in December – the first time the European League match was played outside the host country – and a Serie A team AC Milan and Como were played in February in Perth, Australia.

One-time finals such as the Italian Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup have been held abroad in the past few seasons, but Masters quickly denied the Premier League will follow suit.

"I don't think this will change the Premier League's view on this matter at all, and we don't have any plans to play abroad," Masters said.

"This is not in my to-do list, nor in our discussion topics." The concept of the Premier League hosting the 39th round outside England was proposed in 2008, but the plan was put on hold after being criticized by fans and the media.

Masters said there is no need to rediscuss the idea at this time.

He added: "The Premier League explored this idea more than a decade ago, with the aim of growing the league internationally, and we achieved it in different ways - digital means, broadcast partners, and concepts like the ‘Summer Series’ held in the United States."

"The necessity to push that concept has dissipated."

On Wednesday, the Premier League CEO also provided an update on the Manchester City case and allegedly breach of the league's financial rules. In 2023, Manchester City was accused of violating at least 115 rules in the nine-year period between 2009 and 2018, and a 12-week closed-door hearing took place between September and December last year.

However, Masters said the Premier League has no influence on the ruling outcome or the time frame for making decisions.

"I can't talk about this," he told Sky Sports.

"Our rules are very specific, which stipulate that after the allegations are filed and until the ruling is published, we cannot talk about matters related. We are still waiting for that decision, and I cannot talk about timing or speculate when there will be a result."

"What I can tell you is the system and how it works: it is an independent judiciary. Once the allegations are made, they are submitted to an independent committee of independent selection. They are then responsible for the entire process and their timing."

"They hear the case and decide the outcome. We have no influence on this result and its timing. From an independent point of view, this is correct, and these decisions are made by independents. We can only wait."
