September 15th According to the Sun, former Premier League goalkeeper Russell Holt was diagnosed with two terminal illnesses and is now undergoing palliative care.

52-year-old Russell Holt has played for teams such as Derbyshire and West Brom, and has played in four leagues in England in his 20-year career. Ten years after retiring in September 2023, he was diagnosed with primary sclerotic cholangitis (PSC). In August 2024, his family learned another "destructive" news: he also suffered from stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma.

Holt's daughter Kelly wrote on the donation page set up for her father: "We were told that both diseases are terminal illnesses and that Dad is now receiving palliative care. This is very unacceptable for our family, and our father means the world to us. Even with such a huge challenge, his strength, courage and humor have never wavered."

Kelly and her twin brother Carter plan to participate in the Leicester Half Marathon on October 26, raising funds for the only charity in the UK dedicated to raising awareness of cholangiocarcinoma and funding related research. They have received more than 230 donations, totaling £4,970.

Holt is an iconic figure in Derbyshire and West Brom, making more than 100 appearances for both teams. He started his career at Leicester City, and later loaned to low-level teams such as Lincoln City, Blackpool and Bolton Rangers. But he performed best in the middle and late stages at Derby County, helping the team return to the Premier League in 1996 and making 67 appearances for Derby County over the next four seasons.

After playing for Portsmouth for a short time, Holt returned to the Premier League and joined West Brom. In the 2001/2002 season, he was selected into the PFA Team of the Year in the English League One and helped the team successfully upgrade. He made more than 200 appearances during his time at West Brom, including more than 70 in the Premier League. After leaving West Brom, Holt's career gradually came to an end, and he finally retired from the local team, the Thoringston Miners Welfare Team as a player and coach in 2013.
