Report: Four Manchester United first-team stars absent from training ahead of game against Liverpool

5:03pm, 18 October 2025【Football】

Four Manchester United players were reported to have failed to attend training on Thursday, October 16, their preparation day ahead of their Premier League match against Liverpool. Head coach Ruben Amorim gave Broni Fernandez, Mateusz Cunha, Amad Diallo and Casemiro an extra day off.

According to the "Daily Mail" report, all players have been rested, which is out of precaution and is not due to injury. Amorim's side are seeking to win two games in a row for the first time in their history, while Liverpool will be looking to avoid a third straight league defeat following losses to Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

Nussar Mazraoui and Lisandor Martinez are still the only players confirmed to be unable to play against the Red Devils. The Red Devils are without Alisson and Ibrahima Conte, while the status of Jun Mizuhara and Federico Chiesa are questionable.

Sarah has been involved in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers during the international break, but is expected to feature for the Reds. Former Premier League manager Alan Pardew believes the Egypt player will be back to his best against the Red Devils, speaking to talkSPORT Said on the show:

"Moir has obviously not reached his peak form since signing his new contract, but I do feel like this game could be one of those games where people realize, 'Oh, Salah isn't that bad, he's back to his best' because he's that type of player. He had one game, Everyone knows he doesn't play well defensively, but he's usually good defensively and he always comes back strong. I think Liverpool will win this game and it will be a great game to watch and I'm looking forward to it."

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League standings, one point behind Arsenal. United currently sit in tenth place, with a combined 10 points from their first seven games.

Former Manchester United star believes Luke Shaw was the team's weak link against Liverpool

Former Manchester United player Paul Parker believes Luke Shaw is the worst player in the possible starting XI. He believes Mohamed Salah will have the upper hand against the England player, telling The Devil's Advocate podcast: "If you look at the teams they play, they can't deal with the speed and physicality of the other side. It would be great if Liverpool played in front of them, but I don't think they're going to do that. I don't think they can. Will try to turn the situation around, especially on the left, such as Luke Shaw's position. Salah will try to break through the opponent with and without the ball. He will keep pulling on his shirt and doing similar little tricks. "

Last season, when Manchester United visited Anfield in the Premier League, they fought against Liverpool. 2-2 draw.
