Love and hate: Apart from Arnold, those stars who have been booed by their fans

Fans are known for their fanatical loyalty, but love and hate are often separated by a line. Even when facing home team players, fans will boo for sluggish performance, off-court controversy or attitude issues. Arnold's recent transfer to Real Madrid has caused some Anfield fans to boo, but this is by no means the first time that a top star has encountered such a storm.

Nemar (Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bordeaux, March 13, 2022)

After the 2022 Champions League, Neymar, who has the halo of world No. 1 value, has become the target of public criticism. He and Messi share the anger of fans, and the frequent injuries and "lack of professional attitude" doubts are particularly harsh. In the match against Bordeaux, the Brazilian was booed by home fans throughout the whole game, and even received a mocking cheer after the free kick was kicked away. Despite contributing 118 goals and 77 assists in 173 games, the stands in Princes Park have never truly accepted this genius.

Coutinho (May 12, 2019 Barcelona vs Getafe)

"Assa Dream " eventually turned into a nightmare. After the Champions League was shockingly reversed by Liverpool, Coutinho became the target of Barcelona fans' venting. In the league facing Getafe, Brazil was booed when warming up before the midfield, and booed again when he was replaced. After loaning Bayern, he scored twice in the first game of Barcelona in 8-2, giving his old club the most painful "farewell gift".

Baer (April 9, 2022 Real Madrid vs Getafe)

The five Champions League achievements are hard to overcome. Frequent injuries and worsening relationships with fans made Bale difficult for the later stage. In the 2022 battle to return from injury, the Bernabeu stands welcomed the former hero with a harsh boo. A few months later, the Welsh retired in disgrace, and Real Madrid's beautiful vision was finally shattered.

Sterling (March 17, 2024 Chelsea vs Leicester City)

The FA Cup match against Leicester City became the darkest moment of Sterling's Blues' career: they missed a penalty kick and kicked a free kick into the stands, causing booing fans at home. The continued sluggish performance since Manchester City joined has made fans lose patience. Even with Pochettino's support, the English winger is still loaned to Arsenal for rebirth.

Royce (August 7, 2022 Manchester United vs Brighton)

Even the fifth-time Golden Ball winner cannot escape the boos. During the second visit to Manchester United, the team's departure caused by the lack of qualifications in the Champions League made his relationship with the fans take a sharp turn. Before the first round of the Premier League match against Brighton, some home fans expressed their dissatisfaction with booing. As Teng Hah's characters became marginalized, the conflict eventually broke out due to controversial interviews, and Legend No. 7 left the scene in disgrace by termination.
