Leipzig Director: Summer suggests Werner finds another way out, but he chooses to stick to the contract

Hupu September 14th News RB Leipzig's sports director Marcel Schefel once again commented on Timo Werner's situation at the club and praised the striker's handling of the matter.

Schaefer explained on Sport1's Doppelpass program on Sunday that Werner "acted very professionally and had a very smooth communication between us. He did not disappoint himself".

"However, the coach still decides to favor other players in terms of the match-day lineup," Schefel added. Werner also missed Leipzig's 1-0 victory over Mainz on Saturday. The forward has not yet entered the matchday squad since returning from Tottenham on loan in the summer. Before the season started, just like other players, they talked to Werner about his prospects at RB Leipzig, and Schefel explained: "That's why we advised him in the summer that if he wanted to be a regular starter and get plenty of playing time, it would be better to go elsewhere."

However, Schefel said Werner "consciously decided to stay in Leipzig", adding: "We respect the contract, he is a part of our team, and performance is the most important thing. I have never experienced a coach who keeps the best players on the team and does not bring them to the team." The season started in a fairly average performance, losing 0-6 to Bayern Munich away, then defeated Heidenheim 2-0 away and won at Mainz.
