Kavajal: The goal is always victory

1:21pm, 10 June 2025【Football】

Real Madrid's rampant right-back after returning from injury, excitement of new events, and pursuit of more trophys at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Danny Carvajal's trophy cabinet may have been filled with trophys, but the Real Madrid FC idol hopes to add more trophys in the coming weeks and help Los Melengus take the supreme position on the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup™. Drawing into Group H with Alshilar, Pachuca and Salzburg, the 33-year-old doesn't shy away from the label of a popular team, admits that when you represent Los Blancos, the goal is always victory.

After a season of injuries, Kavajal sat down with FIFA and firmly set his goal on American soil to achieve global glory.

FIFA: Are you excited about participating in the first Club World Cup?

Danny Carvajal: This is a brand new game, as the name suggests, a Super World Cup. This event brings together the best teams on the planet, so there is a clear sense of excitement personally and around the club.

What kind of atmosphere are you looking forward to? Fans from all over the world will gather together?

I think this would be sensational. I can see it resembles the World Cup where the whole country lives and breathes the game. I believe this will be a huge success. Real Madrid is in the same group as Alsiral, Pachuca and Salzburg, so there will be a series of contrasting styles. Is this why the Club World Cup is so charming?

Absolute. I think the mix of football, league and continental brands makes it particularly special. We've faced Pachuca and Salzburg this season, so we have this experience and now we're just looking forward to kick off the game against Alsiral on June 18. What is the team’s goal in the United States?

Real Madrid's goal is always to win, and there are no two ways. We will do our best to gain a place in history books. We are striving to be the first team to win the Club World Cup.

This is also your chance to continue to add trophys in Real Madrid.

This means a lot to me. My goal is to continue rewriting the history of this club and lifting the trophy. I'm totally focused on helping the team do this. I know that major leagues and participating in the U.S. Championships have always been attractive to you.

Absolute. In a previous interview, I said that when I ended up leaving Real Madrid or we decided to part ways, I wanted to give it a try in a league outside of Europe, so MLS was an option. While this is a tough season for you, with injuries in early October leaving you out for a long time, the Club World Cup gives you a chance to end the season with a high attitude. The

Injury did leave me alone for a long time, but since day one, I have used it as a challenge to make sure I am healthy, eager to play in the Club World Cup, and I am on the right track. The game is coming and I come to practice every day, which makes me excited because I know I can do my part to help the team play.

Finally, which legendary player do you want to fight side by side and why?

I would love to play football with Raul. He has been one of my idols in clubs and country music since I was a kid. Here he wrote his name into the club legend and I enjoyed the opportunity to be with him.
