Former Guoan coach serves as J League consultant: Use my philosophy to strengthen Japanese football

On October 1, the Japanese J League officially announced that it would hire former Beijing Guoan coach Schmidt as a global football consultant.

J League will be changed to the Autumn and Spring New Year's Eve competition system from 2026. The goal is to align with international competition system and international competitions. It is the general trend to hire a consultant with rich experience in all aspects of the European football field.

Schmidt has coached Paderborn, Red Bull Salzburg, Leverkusen, Beijing Guoan, Eindhoven, Benfica and other teams, and has cooperated with Japanese international Anlu when he was in Eindhoven. It is reported that although the senior executives of the J League do not need Schmidt to really coach a team, they highly appreciate his high-pressing style. They hope that he can build a bridge to exchange with European advanced football in the future in terms of training of young players, coaches, football directors and club senior executives.

Schmidt introduced that he met J League Chairman Yoshika Nonomura in July this year. Both sides discussed the development of the J League. Finally, he decided to join this "ambitious" cooperative project: "I look forward to applying my ideas, experience and football philosophy to the goal of "let the J League fight with the world", and make every effort to contribute to the strengthening and development of J League and Japanese football."
